Drawing Club is a gentle invitation to slow down, get curious, play creatively, and spend a couple of hours being exactly where you are, whether that's on your own, with friends, or alongside a room full of strangers who are all just figuring it out together.
Why Drawing Club exists…
I wanted to create the kind of space where nobody has to wonder if they belong.
I went to art school, attended countless life drawing sessions, and somehow still came away convinced I couldn't draw... I still feel like that, in the traditional sense of the word "draw", anyway.
What I have come to realise is that, for me, the act of drawing isn't really about learning to draw "well" or becoming "better". It's an opportunity to pay attention. Looking closely at what's right in front of me, noticing the small details we'd usually rush past or dismiss as ordinary, and discovering that there's something quite soothing about giving yourself permission to simply look.
With Drawing Club, we nurture the creative act itself rather than focusing on the production of a technical masterpiece. It's a judgement-free place with no pressure to perform, no right or wrong ways of doing things, and no expectation that you arrive feeling "good at art".
Drawing Club isn't a class; it's an invitation.
What happens at Drawing Club?
Each session has a theme or focus, but by no means is a traditional class.
We encourage getting distracted, making mistakes, collaborating and starting again.
We’re inspired by beautiful objects, visual culture at large, art history and the treasures of the natural world.

Your invitation to notice.
We’ll always provide interesting things to draw: it could be in the form of a fashionable life model, curious still life set-up, modern & contemporary art, film stills, album sleeves, tarot cards or simply a humble but spectacular vegetable.
Respond
Guided exercises. All materials are included.
As a way into drawing and creating we’ll use experimental drawing prompts like using one long continuous line or using your non-dominant hand, or fast-paced exercises that don’t give you enough time to be precious about what you’re making - trust me it works.

Come and have a laugh, it’s fun.
People often create things that genuinely surprise and delight them. Along the way, they make lasting connections, carve out time to be creative for themselves, or simply enjoy sharing the experience with friends. Whether you leave with a drawing you love or just a couple of hours that felt a little lighter, we think that's time well spent.

What do people leave with?
Usually something you can stick on the fridge or could take pride of place on a shelf, or even, the start of a sketchbook to inspire your continued practice.
People often leave feeling lighter, more connected and surprised by what they've made. Some rediscover a creative confidence they hadn't felt in years; others simply enjoy spending two hours doing something fun, lighthearted and completely different.
Meet Bethan
Hi, I'm Bethan (she/her), artist, creative facilitator and the person behind Drawing Club.
For the last ten years I've been producing creative experiences with galleries, charities and arts organisations that bring people together. I believe everyone has the capacity to be creative, even if they don't quite believe it themselves yet, and I love helping people discover that through playful, judgement-free drawing.
Drawing Club is all about connection, curiosity and having a laugh together. Whether you're joining on your own, bringing a friend or planning a team day, my energy goes into making sure you feel part of the club and welcome from the moment you walk through the door.

The duo offered to make the cafe money in exchange for the space.
